Wichita State Shockers Tees & Hoodies — 3XL–6XL, XLT–5XLT

Wichita State Shockers shirts in big and tall sizes are hard to find in regular stores, where most Shockers gear stops at 2XL. This page collects officially licensed Shockers tees, shirts, and hoodies made for bigger and taller fans, in sizes S-XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, 6XL, XLT, 2XLT, 3XLT, 4XLT, and 5XLT — black and gold that actually fits, at the Roundhouse or at home. Women’s plus size Shockers apparel is available in sizes 1X through 4X.

Shockers Tees, Shirts & Hoodies for Big & Tall Fans

Wichita State has no football program soaking up the spotlight — basketball is the main event in Wichita, and Shocker fans dress like it. The big and tall gear linked here covers the everyday rotation: graphic tees with WuShock front and center, “Play Angry” shirts (the mantra that became the program’s identity — more on that below), long-sleeve tees, and the hoodies that do the heavy lifting from November through March. Big sizes add room through the chest, shoulders, and waist. Tall sizes add length in the body, so the tee hangs where it should instead of riding up when you stand to cheer.

Everything linked from this page is officially licensed Wichita State apparel.

How Big & Tall Sizing Works for Tees & Hoodies

A tee is not cut like a jersey, and the differences matter more in extended sizes than anywhere else:

  • Big sizes (3XL–6XL) add room through the chest, waist, and shoulders. Tall sizes (XLT–5XLT) add length — roughly 2 extra inches in the body — without adding width.
  • Cotton shrinks; plan for it. A 100% cotton tee can shrink up to a full size in length on the first hot wash. Between sizes, order up — and if you buy tall for the length, wash cold and hang dry to keep it.
  • Hoodies are layering pieces. A hoodie worn over a tee on a January night at Koch Arena needs breathing room. Measure your chest wearing the layer you’ll put under it.
  • Unisex cuts run long and straight. Most college tees are unisex, which works well for big & tall men; women’s plus tees (1X–4X) are cut for women instead.
  • Sizes above 3XL sell through fastest, especially around the NCAA Tournament. Always check the item’s size chart against your own measurements — brands and cuts vary.

Team Rivalries

The Shockers–Jayhawks rivalry is the feud that almost never gets played. Kansas has historically declined to schedule Wichita State, so the state’s two programs went decades without meeting. The NCAA Tournament finally forced the issue in 2015: the first meeting since 1993, with a Sweet 16 spot on the line — and the Shockers won 78–65, their first victory over Kansas since 1987. It remains the most celebrated bragging right in Wichita. Jayhawk fans in extended sizes are covered on our Kansas Jayhawks big & tall t-shirts and hoodies page.

The other in-state program, Kansas State, completes the Kansas triangle — three fan bases, none of them shy about it. Wildcat gear in the same extended sizes is on our Kansas State Wildcats tees, polos and hoodies page. Beyond the state line, the Shockers’ longest-running grudge is with Tulsa, a series stretching back generations that followed both schools into the American Conference — and old Missouri Valley wars with Creighton and Missouri State still get Wichita talking.

Interesting Facts About the Shockers

  • “Shockers” comes from wheat. Early Wichita students earned money shocking — harvesting — wheat in nearby fields, and tradition traces the nickname to 1904, when football manager R.J. Kirk coined “Wheatshockers.” Headline writers shortened it to Shockers.
  • WuShock, the muscle-bound bundle of wheat, was designed in 1948 by student Wilbur Elsea, who thought the school needed a mascot with “a tough impression” and a “no-nonsense scowl.” Freshman Jack Kersting won the contest to name him.
  • Wichita State has reached two Final Fours: 1965, and 2013 — when a No. 9 seed beat Gonzaga and Ohio State before taking eventual champion Louisville to the final minutes of the semifinal.
  • The encore was somehow louder. The 2013–14 Shockers entered the NCAA Tournament at 34–0 as a No. 1 seed — the first team to enter undefeated since UNLV in 1991 — won their opener for a 35–0 start, then fell to Kentucky in a classic.
  • “Play Angry,” the slogan on half the shirts in Koch Arena, came from a visit by Shocker greats Xavier McDaniel and Antoine Carr, who asked the team how they’d feel if someone came into their house and tried to steal something. The answer became the motto.
  • McDaniel’s own résumé: in 1984–85 he became the first player in college basketball history to lead the nation in both scoring (27.2 per game) and rebounding (14.8) in the same season.
  • The Shockers also won the NIT championship in 2011 — the run that set the table for the Final Four era.

More Kansas & Regional Gear in Big & Tall

Kansas fans rarely stop at one school. The Kansas Jayhawks big & tall t-shirts and hoodies page and Kansas State Wildcats tees, polos and hoodies page cover the state’s other two corners, and the region is here too: Oklahoma State Cowboys tees and hoodies and Nebraska Cornhuskers t-shirts and hoodies. For every other school, the college big and tall hub collects tees, hoodies, and jerseys by size across the NCAA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do Wichita State Shockers shirts come in for big and tall fans?

Shockers tees, shirts, and hoodies on this page run S-XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, 6XL, XLT, 2XLT, 3XLT, 4XLT, and 5XLT. Women’s plus sizes run 1X through 4X.

What’s the difference between a 4XL and a 4XLT Shockers tee?

A 4XL adds width through the chest and waist. A 4XLT keeps a similar chest and adds length to the body instead — the right call if you’re tall and standard tees sit too short or ride up when you raise your arms.

Will a big & tall cotton tee shrink?

It can. A 100% cotton tee may shrink up to a full size in length on the first hot wash and dry. If you’re between sizes — or you buy tall sizes for the length — order up, wash cold, and hang dry to hold the fit.

Where can I buy a 5XL or 6XL Wichita State shirt?

Online, through the retailers linked on this page. Stores almost never stock 5XL or 6XL college gear on the rack, so online is where the full range lives.

Do Shockers shirts come in women’s plus sizes?

Yes. Women’s Shockers tees, hoodies, and tanks are offered in plus sizes 1X through 4X — cut for women, not just sized-up men’s styles.

Two Final Fours, a 35–0 start, and the toughest wheat in college sports — whatever your size, there’s a Shockers shirt cut for you. Play angry.
