Hofstra University is the largest private college in New York and only 25 miles outside of New York City. The beautiful campus stretches out over 240 acres and has produced professional athletes such as Marques Colston, Wayne Chrebet, and “Speedy” Claxton.
Hofstra has a very interesting history about how their team neame became “The Pride.” They were originally known as the “Flying Dutchmen”, but changed their name to the Pride in 2004. Hofstra faced an economic crisis during the 1970’s that resulted in the layoff of more than 100 employees and putting the University’s future in jeopardy. “Pride” refers to the University’s pledge for economic recovery and growth during those trying times.
Hofstra fans and alumni have tremendous team spirit and they love to show their support to the University. When you go on campus or to any of the games you will be amazed at how everyone is dressed in team t-shirts, and sweatshirt.
